Good Gear Changes the Trek

Sapa's trails cross terraced hillsides, paddy field edges, and narrow ridges that turn slick after any rain. The right gear is the difference between enjoying the views and focusing on not slipping.

Balance & Stability

Poles give you a four-point stance on steep or muddy sections — critical on the descent from Ta Van back toward Sapa Town, where the clay path turns slick after afternoon rain. The boots' deep-groove sole adds the same grip for your feet.

Save ~40% of Your Energy

On a 6–8 hour day trek, poles redistribute effort across your arms and core — not just your legs. Travelers who use poles consistently tell us they finish the day far less tired and recover faster the next morning, especially on multi-day routes in the Muong Hoa Valley.

Protect Your Knees

The most common complaint after a Sapa trek is knee pain on the descent. Poles absorb impact and significantly reduce joint load — especially important if you're doing back-to-back trek days or if you have any existing knee sensitivities.

Gear Rental — Common Questions

$2 USD per pole per day — always rented as a pair, so $4 per day total. Even on a short half-day trek we recommend renting for the full day since return time is flexible. If you're doing multiple trek days, just keep them and pay per day — no rebooking needed.

At the Trekking Tour Sapa office: 105 Thach Son Street, Sapa Town, open from 6:30am daily. If you're booked on one of our guided treks, we can bring the gear to your hotel meeting point — just tell us when you book. Return the same evening to the office, or leave it with the guide at the end of the trek day.

EU sizes 38 through 44. See the size chart above to convert to US sizes. If you need a size outside this range, message us on WhatsApp at least 2 days before your trek date — we'll do our best to source it. If you're between sizes, go up: feet swell on full trek days, and snug boots become painful after the first uphill hour.

Yes — especially during busy season (September to November) and on weekends. Message us on WhatsApp with your trek date, group size, and boot sizes. We'll hold the gear at no charge. No deposit required to reserve.

Yes. The boots have a waterproof membrane that handles mud, shallow puddles, and the rain Sapa gets from April through November. The trails to Ta Van and Lao Chai get very muddy after rain — standard trainers or sandals will be soaked within the first 20 minutes. For Fansipan, which can have snow above 3,000m, we'll discuss footwear specifically when you book that route.

Yes — gear rental is open to independent trekkers too, not just our tour guests. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and requirements. We're happy to advise on which gear makes sense for your planned route, even if you're going on your own.
