My name is Tzu Hang. I'm Black H'mong, born and raised in the Muong Hoa Valley — the long valley that runs from Sapa town down through Lao Chai, Ta Van, and Hang Da. I learned these trails the way every H'mong child does: by walking them. To the fields before school, to the market on foot, up and over the ridges to visit family in the next village. Long before I called myself a guide, I already knew where every path went and which ones the rain washes out.
I learned English the way most guides from my community did — talking to travellers on the trail while selling handmade textiles as a teenager. I made a lot of mistakes and learned faster because of them. Now I do it full-time and licensed, at Trekking Tour Sapa. Ten years of guiding later, the job is still the same one I started with: walking beside people and showing them the valley I grew up in.
Being from here isn't a line in a brochure — it's the reason I can take you off the routes the buses use. I know the families in Lao Chai and Hau Thao who aren't performing for visitors, the quiet forest paths in Hoang Lien National Park where you actually see birds, and what a village looks like during harvest instead of during a photo stop. Sapa is home to Black H'mong, Red Dao, Tay, Giay, and more — each with their own dress, language, and land. Most tours show you one. I want you to see the difference.
I write the destination guides on this site about the places I walk every week — Ta Van, Muong Hoa Valley, Fansipan, and where to find wildlife in the forest. They're the answers I'd give you on the trail, written down. If you have a question about a route, a village, or what to bring, message me directly. I'll give you a straight answer, and if a trail isn't right for you, I'll tell you that too.

Trekking Through Rice Terraced Fields
My home route. I walk you down the valley floor from Lao Chai to Ta Van — past my own village — and in September the terraces turn gold the whole way.
Rice Paddies and Cultures – Easy Hiking
The route I take travellers who want the terraces without the steep parts. Gentle paths, plenty of stops, and time to sit with a family in the village.
Rice Terraced Fields & Homestay
Two days on foot, one night with a Black H'mong family I know in Lao Chai. This is the trek where travellers tell me they finally understood the valley.
Mountain Views and Villages Trek
When you want quieter trails, this is where I take you. Ma Tra and the ridge paths above the valley see far fewer people — and the views are wider.
"Tzu Hang grew up in the valley we walked through, and it showed. He took us off the main path to his own village, introduced us to people by name, and knew exactly where the light would be best at each point. This was not a scripted tour — it was a local showing us home."

"We booked the easy route because we weren't sure about our fitness, and Tzu Hang set the pace perfectly. He stopped often, explained the terraces and the crops, and never made us feel slow. When it started to rain he already knew the driest way down. A calm, kind, genuinely knowledgeable guide."

"The homestay with Tzu Hang was the highlight of our Vietnam trip. I'll be honest, day two was harder than I expected and my knees felt it on the descent — he did warn me to rent the walking poles and I didn't. That's on me. Everything else was exactly as promised, and the family dinner was unforgettable."
