About This Trek

I put this route together for travelers who ask for three days but want to feel like they've been gone longer. We move through five distinct landscapes in 3 days — the terraced fields above Sapa, the deep Ban Ho valley, the bamboo-fringed path to Nam Toong, and the quiet ridge above Muong Hoa where you can see three valleys at once on a clear morning. The groups are small, the pace is honest.

Nights are spent in a Black H'mong home in the Hang Da or Hau Thao area. You sleep on a traditional wooden platform with quilts, and the family cooks everything over a wood fire — typically sticky rice, stir-fried river greens, and pork slow-cooked with star anise. In the morning, the mist usually sits in the valley until about 8:30 AM. We wait for it to lift before the big descents — it makes the terraces look like they're floating.

The second day is the most demanding — about 16 km with a 400-metre descent into Ban Ho valley and a climb back out. If you're managing a knee or ankle issue, tell us before you book. We can adjust the route or arrange motorbike support for steeper sections. Our guides carry a first-aid kit and have completed wilderness first response training. Licensed operator — No. 10-078/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT.

3-Day Itinerary

Route: Sapa Town → Hang Da / Hau Thao → Ban Ho Valley → Nam Toong → Muong Hoa → Sapa Town  |  ~12–18 km/day · Moderate

Day 1 — Sapa Town to Hang Da Homestay

09:00 AM
Hotel Pickup — Your Hotel in Sapa Town
We pick you up at your hotel anywhere in Sapa Town — or meet us at the Trekking Tour Sapa Office, 105 Thach Son Street. Your guide introduces the route and checks in on your pace preferences before we set off.
09:30 AM
Trek Begins — Terraced Fields Above Y Linh Ho
The trek starts from the edge of Sapa, descending through Black H'mong terraced fields above Y Linh Ho village. The fields drop steeply toward the valley — on a clear morning you can see the whole Muong Hoa basin from the first ridge.
11:30 AM
Lunch — Local Family Home
Lunch at a local family's home along the trail. Fresh rice, vegetables from the family's garden, and whatever protein the kitchen has that morning. Real food, not a set tourist menu.
01:30 PM
Hau Thao and Hang Da — Traditional Weaving Villages
Continue through Hau Thao and into Hang Da — traditional weaving families, bamboo groves, and terraces that few tourist groups reach. Your guide introduces families along the route — people he has known for years.
04:00 PM
Arrive Homestay — Free Time in the Village
Arrive at the homestay. Drop your bag, freshen up, and walk the village at your own pace. The evening is quiet — no tourist shops, no organized activities.
07:00 PM
Family Dinner at the Homestay
Dinner cooked over a wood fire by the family — sticky rice, wood-fire pork, local greens stir-fried with garlic. Simple, fresh, and made entirely from ingredients grown in or near the village.

Day 2 — Ban Ho Valley & Nam Toong (Longest Day)

08:00 AM
Breakfast at Homestay — After the Mist Lifts
Breakfast after the morning mist clears — usually around 8:30 AM. We don't rush the start on Day 2. The descent into Ban Ho is more enjoyable when the valley is visible.
09:00 AM
Trek to Ban Ho Valley — Longest Day, ~16 km
Today covers about 16 km with a 400-metre descent into the Ban Ho valley floor and a climb back out toward Nam Toong. This is the most demanding section of the whole route — regular breaks, the guide carries emergency supplies.
If you have a knee or ankle concern, let us know before booking. We can arrange motorbike support for steeper sections on Day 2.
12:00 PM
Lunch — Family House in Ban Ho Village
Lunch at a family house in Ban Ho village. Rest properly — the afternoon has more trail ahead.
02:00 PM
Bamboo Forest Trail Toward Nam Toong
Continue through the bamboo forest trail toward Nam Toong. The path is shaded and cooler than the open terraces — one of the most atmospheric sections of the whole route.
05:00 PM
Arrive Second Homestay — Nam Toong
Arrive at the second homestay in Nam Toong. Rest before dinner.
07:30 PM
Dinner with the Family — Optional Evening Walk
Dinner with the family. Optional evening walk to the river after — the sound of the Ban Ho river at night is one of those things you don't forget.

Day 3 — Muong Hoa Valley Ridge & Return to Sapa

08:00 AM
Breakfast — Pack Up
Breakfast at the homestay. Pack your bags — the vehicle will meet you in Sapa Town later this afternoon.
09:00 AM
Muong Hoa Valley Viewpoint — Ridge Trail
Trek to the Muong Hoa Valley viewpoint on the ridge trail. On a clear morning you can see three valleys at once from here — the Muong Hoa basin, the Ban Ho drainage, and the upper terraces toward Sapa. The view earns the climb.
11:00 AM
Descend Through Lao Chai or Ta Van Village
Descend through Lao Chai or Ta Van village depending on conditions and group pace. Both routes pass through working farmland and traditional houses.
12:30 PM
Final Lunch — Near Muong Hoa Bridge
Last meal of the trek near the Muong Hoa bridge. A good moment to reflect on the three days before the vehicle arrives.
02:00 PM
Vehicle Pickup — Return to Sapa Town
The vehicle picks up the group for the return to Sapa Town.
03:30 – 04:00 PM
Drop-off — Sapa Church or Your Hotel
Drop-off at Sapa Church or your hotel in Sapa Town. The trek ends here — the rest of the evening is yours.

Why Trek With Us

Born in These Mountains
Our guides — Tzu Hang and Lo Hu — grew up in Black H'mong villages along the Muong Hoa Valley. They don't just know the trails; they know the families, the fields, and the stories behind every turn.
Routes the Crowds Don't Take
Because our community roots run deep, we access trails through private farmland and minority villages that mainstream operators simply cannot enter. You won't be walking the same path as 50 other tour groups.
Licensed & Fully Transparent
We hold a Vietnam National Tourism Authority operator license (10-078/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT). Price shown is the price you pay — no surprise fees, no hidden commissions, no tipping pressure.
Small Groups — Real Attention
Maximum 12 people per group tour. Every private tour is one-guide, one-group. You're never lost in a crowd, never rushed. We move at your pace and stop wherever you want a photo.

"Day 2 was long but the descent into Ban Ho was worth every step — rice terraces all the way down to the valley floor. The family in Nam Toong made us pumpkin soup and rice wine. I didn't want to leave."

"The second night at the homestay was the highlight of our whole Vietnam trip. Sleeping on wooden platforms, smelling the wood smoke, waking up to mist over the terraces. The guide knew every family along the route by name."

"Tzu Hang led our group through trails I couldn't find on any map. We saw three water buffalo cross the river at Ban Ho and ate lunch in a house that's been in the same H'mong family for four generations. This is the real Sapa."
