About This Trek
On a clear morning, the first thing this trek gives you is Fansipan. The 3,143 m roof of Indochina rises straight out of a sea of cloud, the light pours down into the Muong Hoa Valley, and you're standing on a quiet ridge to watch it — no crowds, no railings, just you and the mountains. That is how the three days begin. From there the trail drops into the Sapa the day tours never reach: the Black H'mong villages of Hang Da and Hau Thao, where the loudest sound is a buffalo bell; the hidden Giang Ta Chai waterfalls and the cool green bamboo forest; and the great staircase of rice terraces around Ta Van, Lao Chai and Y Linh Ho. Five different landscapes, three communities — Black H'mong, Giay and Red Dao — and barely another tourist in sight.
But what travellers tell us they remember longest are the two nights in our homestays. These are real family homes, not guesthouses dressed up for visitors. You sleep under thick warm quilts on a wooden platform, and dinner comes straight off the wood fire in front of you — sticky rice, river greens stir-fried with garlic, pork slow-cooked with star anise, and a small cup of corn wine if you want to toast with the family. You sit by the fire while the grandmother talks about the harvest and your guide translates both ways. By the second evening you are not a guest watching village life anymore — you are part of it for the night. That shift is the whole reason this tour exists, and it is the part people message us about months later.
It is an honest trek — around 14 km on Day 1, 15 km on Day 2 with one good uphill push to the waterfalls, and an easier 10 km on the last day — but the pace is yours, the group is small (max 12), and we walk with you, never ahead of you. Worried about a knee or an ankle, or whether your fitness is right? Tell us before you book and we will adapt the route or arrange a motorbike for the steep sections — we would rather get it right than have you turn back. Our guides were born in these valleys, carry a first-aid kit, and stand behind 10,000+ happy travellers and a 4.8★ rating. Trekking Tour Sapa is a fully licensed operator (No. 10-078/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT), so every booking is protected. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates — we usually reply within 5–10 minutes — and we'll hold your spot.

Day 1 — Mountain Views and Villages Trek (~14 km, ~5.5 hrs)
09:00 AM
Pickup — Sapa Town
The tour begins at 9:00 AM. Your guide meets you at your hotel anywhere in Sapa Town — or at the Trekking Tour Sapa Office, 105 Thach Son Street. After a short introduction, we set off uphill on a small trail.
09:30 AM
Mountain Viewpoint — Fansipan & the Sea of Clouds
The trail climbs to a mountain viewpoint where, on a clear morning, you can see Fansipan (3,143 m, the highest peak in Indochina) and a sea of clouds over Sapa town. From here you also look out over the famous Muong Hoa Valley rice terraces — some of the most spectacular in Vietnam — and the main river running through the valley below.
11:30 AM
Hang Da — Black H'mong Village & Lunch
We continue down the mountainside to Hang Da, a Black H'mong village. Along the way you'll see the animals local families keep — water buffalo, cows, pigs — before stopping for lunch at a small restaurant run by a local family.
01:30 PM
Hau Thao — Black H'mong Village & Daily Life
After lunch we take a small road down to Hau Thao, another Black H'mong village. Here you see everyday local life — and, if the timing is right, families out working the fields, harvesting or planting rice.
Evening
Homestay (Night 1) — Hau Thao
You're warmly welcomed by a Black H'mong family at their homestay in Hau Thao. Rest, take a hot shower, and relax while dinner is prepared over the family fire.
Day 2 — Rice Terraced Fields, Waterfall & Bamboo Forest (~15 km, ~6 hrs)
07:30 AM
Breakfast & the Village Around the Homestay
Enjoy a hot coffee or tea and explore the area around the homestay and the nearby rice fields. After breakfast, we walk on to Su Pan, a Black H'mong community.
09:30 AM
Giang Ta Chai Waterfalls & the Red Dao Area
From Su Pan the trail climbs back uphill into the mountains to the waterfalls of Giang Ta Chai. You then enter the Red Dao area, where your guide explains their culture and daily life in detail and you visit a Red Dao family.
12:00 PM
Second Hanging Bridge & Lunch in Giang Ta Chai
After the visit, we head back toward the waterfalls on an alternative trail that crosses a second hanging bridge, then have lunch in Giang Ta Chai village at a small, local restaurant run by a H'mong family.
02:00 PM
Bamboo Forest to Ta Van Village
After the break we cross the bamboo forest and walk on to Ta Van, a village shared by the Black H'mong and Giay minorities.
Evening
Homestay (Night 2) — Ta Van
We stay the night with a local Black H'mong family at their homestay in Ta Van. Dinner with the family, then rest.
Day 3 — Trekking Through Rice Terraced Fields (~10 km)
08:00 AM
Breakfast, then Trek to Lao Chai & Y Linh Ho
After a good breakfast we start the third day, trekking toward Lao Chai and Y Linh Ho.
09:30 AM
Lao Chai & the Muong Hoa Hanging Bridge
We reach Lao Chai, then cross the hanging bridge over the Muong Hoa river and climb uphill into the mountains. From here you get to admire some of the biggest and most beautiful rice terraces in Vietnam, with a majestic view over the top of the Muong Hoa Valley.
12:00 PM
Y Linh Ho Village — Lunch
We head down to Y Linh Ho village and have lunch at a small, traditional restaurant run by a local H'mong family.
02:00 – 03:00 PM
Car Pickup & Return to Sapa Town
After lunch we walk about 1.5 km to a point where a car is waiting to bring you back to Sapa Town and your hotel. The tour ends at around 2:00–3:00 PM, so you can book a bus back to Hanoi or onward afterward if you wish.

How It Works
1
Book & confirm — Pay online or message us on WhatsApp. We confirm your booking within 2 hours — you'll receive all the details you need: date, time, pickup point, and what to bring.
2
We pick you up — Your guide meets you at your hotel at 9:00 AM on Day 1. Groups are max 12 people — most departures run with 4–8 guests. Smaller groups mean more time at each location and a quieter trail.
3
3 days on trail, 2 nights with a family — You move from the mountain viewpoint through Hang Da, Hau Thao, the Giang Ta Chai waterfalls and Ta Van, finishing along the Muong Hoa Valley at Lao Chai and Y Linh Ho — sleeping in H'mong homestays each night. All meals are included, everything from the family kitchen.
4
Back in Sapa Town by 3:30–4:00 PM on Day 3 — Dropped off at Sapa Church or your hotel. Plenty of time to shower, rest, or catch an evening bus back to Hanoi.
Best for: adventurous couples, solo travelers, small friend groups, and anyone who wants to go beyond the day-trip crowds and stay in real H'mong villages.
1
Book your group — Tell us your group size. Larger groups pay less per person — 4 people at $123/person is our most popular private option for families and small groups.
2
Dedicated guide, your pace — No strangers. Your guide focuses entirely on your group. Stop longer at photos, skip sections you don't want, adjust the route.
3
Flexible timing — Want an earlier start? A different lunch spot? We can customize the day around your schedule and preferences.
4
Private transport throughout — Your own vehicle picks up and drops off. No sharing with other groups at any point.
Best for: couples or small friend groups who want the full 3-day route without sharing the trail or homestay with strangers. Also ideal for anyone with a specific medical concern who needs route flexibility.

Why Trek With Us
Born in These Mountains
Our local guides grew up in Black H'mong villages along the Muong Hoa Valley. They don't just know the trails; they know the families, the fields, and the stories behind every turn.
Routes the Crowds Don't Take
Because our community roots run deep, we access trails through private farmland and minority villages that mainstream operators simply cannot enter. You won't be walking the same path as 50 other tour groups.
Licensed & Fully Transparent
We hold a Vietnam National Tourism Authority operator license (10-078/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT). Price shown is the price you pay — no surprise fees, no hidden commissions, no tipping pressure.
Small Groups — Real Attention
Maximum 12 people per group tour. Every private tour is one-guide, one-group. You're never lost in a crowd, never rushed. We move at your pace and stop wherever you want a photo.
"Day 2 was long but the Giang Ta Chai waterfalls and the bamboo forest were worth every step — and crossing the hanging bridges was a highlight. The family in Ta Van made us pumpkin soup and rice wine. I didn't want to leave."

"The second night at the homestay was the highlight of our whole Vietnam trip. Sleeping on wooden platforms, smelling the wood smoke, waking up to mist over the terraces. The guide knew every family along the route by name."

★★★★★
"Our guide led us through trails I couldn't find on any map. We saw water buffalo crossing the fields near Hang Da and ate lunch in a house that's been in the same H'mong family for four generations. The view of Fansipan above the sea of clouds on the first morning was unreal. This is the real Sapa."
