About This Trek
This is the tour for travelers who want both halves of Sapa in a single day: the rice terraces on foot in the morning, and the summit of Fansipan in the afternoon. You spend the morning walking the Muong Hoa Valley through real Black H'mong villages, then ride the cable car all the way up to the roof of Indochina — two experiences that most tours split across two separate days. The cable car ticket is included in the price.
We leave at 8:00 AM and spend the morning in the lower Muong Hoa Valley. The trail from Y Linh Ho down through Lao Chai is one of the most photographed in Sapa — narrow stone paths flanked by paddy walls, with Black H'mong villages every twenty minutes or so. Lunch is at a local family in Lao Chai, cooked over a wood fire: rice, seasonal vegetables, whatever the family prepared that morning. After lunch a car meets us in the village and drives back up to Sapa and on to the Fansipan cable car station. We ride the record-breaking cable car up to the 3,143m summit — the famous steel marker, the pagoda complex, the great bronze Buddha, and, on a clear day, the whole Hoang Lien Son range below you. Back in Sapa town by around 4:00 PM.
This route is rated Easy: the morning rice terrace walk is well-maintained and the pace is never rushed, while the afternoon is the cable car with only light walking at the summit. If you visit between October and November, the rice is golden and the mountain is usually clear by 9:00 AM; March and April give strong visibility too. Group tours run with a minimum of 2 people. Our local guide was born in the Muong Hoa Valley and has been leading this route for years. Trekking Tour Sapa holds Vietnam National Tourism Authority operator license (No. 10-078/2023).

Full Day Itinerary
Route: Sapa Town → Y Linh Ho → Lao Chai (Lunch) → Muong Hoa Funicular → Fansipan Cable Car → Fansipan Summit (3,143m) → Return | ~8 km / 5 miles · ~7 hours · Easy
08:00 AM
Hotel Pickup — Sapa Town
We pick you up at your hotel anywhere in Sapa Town — or meet us at the Trekking Tour Sapa Office, 105 Thach Son Street. Your guide is Black H'mong, born in the Muong Hoa Valley. They'll introduce the day's route and give you a quick read on the mountain visibility — a clear day means a Fansipan view that will stay with you.
08:45 AM
Y Linh Ho Village — Rice Terrace Start
We enter the Muong Hoa Valley via Y Linh Ho, where the trail runs narrow between paddy walls just wide enough for one person. In September and October, the rice here is still green on the upper terraces and gold on the lower ones — the timing overlap produces the most striking view of the valley. Your guide points out each village by name as we walk: Y Linh Ho, then down toward Lao Chai.
10:00 AM
Lao Chai — Black H'mong Village
Lao Chai is one of the most intact Black H'mong villages in the Muong Hoa Valley — stone-and-wood houses, communal fields, and families who have lived here for generations. Because our guides grew up in communities like this, the greetings are genuine. We walk through the village at our own pace, with the rice terraces rising on every side.
11:30 AM
Lunch at a Local Family in Lao Chai
Lunch is at a family home in Lao Chai — rice, vegetable dishes, and whatever the family cooked that morning. This is where the morning trek ends, so take your time, rest your legs, and enjoy the valley view. After lunch a car meets us right here in the village.
12:30 PM
Car to Sun Plaza, Sapa Town
A car picks us up in Lao Chai and drives back up to Sun Plaza in the centre of Sapa Town — the start of the Muong Hoa mountain railway. No more walking on this stretch — just sit back and watch the valley you trekked all morning roll past the window.
01:00 PM
Muong Hoa Mountain Train (Funicular)
From Sun Plaza we board the Muong Hoa funicular — the scenic mountain railway that climbs from the town centre up to the Fansipan cable car station. The ticket is included, and the short ride opens up sweeping window views over the Muong Hoa Valley and its terraces before you reach the cable car.
01:15 PM
Fansipan Cable Car — Ride to the Summit
Your cable car ticket is included. We board the record-breaking Fansipan cable car — one of the longest three-rope cable cars in the world — and rise over the Muong Hoa Valley toward the peak. The ride alone is worth the day: rice terraces, pine forest, and clouds drifting below the cabin.
01:45 PM
Fansipan Summit — 3,143m, Roof of Indochina
We reach the summit of Fansipan, Indochina's highest peak at 3,143m. From the top you'll stand beside the famous stainless-steel summit marker, explore the spiritual complex of pagodas and the great bronze Buddha, and — on a clear day — look out over the whole Hoang Lien Son range. Your guide stays with you to point out the landmarks and help with photos.
04:00 PM
Return to Sapa Town
We take the cable car back down and a car returns you to your hotel or our office at 105 Thach Son Street, arriving around 4:00 PM. If you're planning dinner in Sapa, the evening market opens at 18:00.
Summit visibility is best October–November and March–May. In July–August, afternoon clouds often wrap the peak — but the cable car ride and the spiritual complex are striking even in mist. Ask your guide the morning of the tour for the latest conditions.

How It Works
1
Book & confirm — Pay online or message us on WhatsApp. We reply within 5–10 minutes — you'll receive all the details you need: date, time, pickup point, and what to bring. Group tours require a minimum of 2 people.
2
We pick you up — Your guide arrives at your hotel at 8:00 AM. Groups are 2–12 people — usually 4–8 on most days. You trek the rice terraces in the morning and ride the cable car to the Fansipan summit in the afternoon, all with the same local guide.
3
Trek & cable car together — You share the route with other travelers. Same guide, same villages, same summit — just more people to share it with. Great for couples and small groups.
4
Back by 4:00 PM — A full day, well spent. Plenty of time for a rest, shower, or dinner before your evening plans.
Best for: travelers who want rice terrace scenery AND the Fansipan summit in one day. Group tours run with a minimum of 2 people.
1
Book your group — Tell us your group size. Larger groups pay less per person — 4 people at $80/person is our most popular private option for families and small groups.
2
Dedicated guide, your pace — No strangers. Your guide focuses entirely on your group. Stop longer at photos, skip sections you don't want, adjust the route.
3
Flexible timing — Want an earlier start? A different lunch spot? We can customize the day around your schedule and preferences.
4
Private transport throughout — Your own vehicle picks up and drops off. No sharing with other groups at any point.
Best for: families traveling with elderly parents, couples who want the guide entirely to themselves, or anyone with mobility concerns who needs a fully flexible pace.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — in the afternoon we take the Fansipan cable car all the way up to the 3,143m summit, the highest point in Indochina. The cable car ticket is included in the $85 price. You'll stand by the famous steel summit marker, visit the pagoda complex and the great bronze Buddha, and on a clear day look out over the whole Hoang Lien Son range. We don't trek to the summit on foot (that's a 2-day climb) — the cable car takes about 15 minutes, and your guide stays with you at the top.
Yes. This tour is rated Easy — not because it's completely flat, but because the terrain is manageable and the pace is never rushed. The morning rice terrace trek from Y Linh Ho to Lao Chai is about 8 km / 5 miles on stone-paved paths. The afternoon is the cable car and summit, with only light walking on paved paths and steps at the top. If you can walk comfortably for a few hours with breaks, you can do this tour. Walking poles are available at our office if needed.
The morning section covers the Muong Hoa Valley rice terraces: Y Linh Ho and Lao Chai (both Black H'mong villages), ending with lunch at a local family in Lao Chai. In the afternoon a car takes us to the Fansipan cable car station, and we ride up to the Fansipan summit (3,143m) — summit marker, pagoda complex, and bronze Buddha. Morning trek: ~8 km / 5 miles.
Included: English-speaking local H'mong guide, Fansipan cable car ticket (round trip to the summit), Muong Hoa mountain train (funicular) ticket between Sapa town and the cable car station, home-cooked lunch at a local family in Lao Chai, a small water bottle per person, transport from Lao Chai to Sun Plaza, and return transport to your hotel in Sapa Town. Not included: personal travel insurance, extra beverages, tips for the guide, and Hanoi–Sapa transport. Note: group tours require a minimum of 2 people.
October–November and March–May give the clearest visibility, with mountain peaks visible from early morning. In July and August, afternoon clouds typically build by 12:00–13:00 — the mountain may be visible in the early morning but obscured by afternoon. The rice terrace section of this tour is equally impressive in any season. If visibility is your priority, aim for October or late March.

Why Trek With Us
Born in These Mountains
Our local guides grew up in Black H'mong villages along the Muong Hoa Valley. They don't just know the trails; they know the families, the fields, and the stories behind every turn.
Routes the Crowds Don't Take
Because our community roots run deep, we access trails through private farmland and minority villages that mainstream operators simply cannot enter. You won't be walking the same path as 50 other tour groups.
Licensed & Fully Transparent
We hold a Vietnam National Tourism Authority operator license (10-078/2023/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT). Price shown is the price you pay — no surprise fees, no hidden commissions, no tipping pressure.
Small Groups — Real Attention
Maximum 12 people per group tour. Every private tour is one-guide, one-group. You're never lost in a crowd, never rushed. We move at your pace and stop wherever you want a photo.
"Two completely different halves of Sapa in one day — and it works. The rice terrace walk from Y Linh Ho down to Lao Chai in the morning is stunning, then after lunch in the village they drove us up to the cable car and we rode it to the summit. The cable car ticket was included, which we didn't expect at this price. Standing at 3,143m by the summit marker with the clouds below us was unforgettable. The lunch at the family in Lao Chai was one of the best meals of our trip."

Rice Fields and Fansipan Experience · March 2026
★★★★☆
"Excellent day tour and great value with the cable car included. The rice terrace walk in the morning is genuinely beautiful, especially the descent into Lao Chai. One honest note: cloud cover in March meant the summit was misty when we went up, so we didn't get the big view — but the cable car ride itself and the pagodas at the top were still worth it. Wear warm layers, it's cold at 3,143m. The guide was very knowledgeable and the lunch was generous."

Rice Fields and Fansipan Experience · November 2025
★★★★★
"November was perfect for this tour — the rice was golden in the valley and Fansipan was completely clear all afternoon. Walking the terraces in the morning and then taking the cable car to the actual summit in the afternoon is a brilliant combination; you get the quiet villages and the big mountain in one day. The guide stayed with us at the top and pointed out the whole Hoang Lien Son range. We were back in Sapa by 4 PM with time for a beer and the night market."
